The Second Agricultural Revolution
The Second Agricultural Revolution first began in England. It concided with the Industrial Revolution. It was also part of the 2nd stage of the DTM(Demograpich Transition Model), meaning it had less positive checks on the population. But because the Industrial Revolution concided with the Seond Revolution, new technologies and factories were made. So surpluses of food were needed to feed those in the factories.
It had major changes to the agricultural. They switched to the four field system, enclosure system(forced peasents off the land and increased livestock), and were able to build tractors. They could also do selective breeding, and their methods for soil preparation, fertilization, crop care, and harvesting improved. They used slash and burn method and used cow poop as fertilization, and started to feed new artificial feed to livestock. And new technologies like the seed drill, which helped farmers to avoid wasting seeds and to easily plant in rows and to distinguish weeds from crops, were invented. Increased agricultural made it possible to feed much larger populations, which caused more population growth.
This encouraged urbanization, making more cities grow and a huge market for crops. There were also improvements in transportation. Like steam ships and railroads. This helped transport goods to longer distances. But because of this revoultion European countirea dominated agricultural. They forced colonies to produce cash crops and eliminated subsistence farming. And indigenous societies were very unfamiliar with European ideas. There was no private property and mostly communial farming. And peripheral(less developed countries) countires were forced to import food. This created international debt and created dependency on the core. This system was very difficult to end because of the debt. There was also Johann Heinrih von Thunen Model. This model focused on how lond is used and why land is used the way it is. But someone else will explain that to you.
This revolution was composed of a series of innovations, improvements, and techniques that changed the agricultural world.
